with your halo slipping down to choke you now
Every word of his prayer was spoken in blind faith. He honestly believed without a shadow of a doubt that his heavenly father would swoop down to save him or at least intervene somehow. Jeremiah saw himself as a good little servant. He did as he was told and he did it without question or hesitation. This kind of hyper-religious devotion was what landed him in an insane asylum and ultimately costed him his freedom, so when there appeared to be no response from his God he was shocked to say the very least. He opened his eyes to see the 'vampire' still standing there before him looking just as unscathed as before. The 'angel' grit his teeth together when the 'undead creature' pointed out the obvious in a tone that patronized him. He was wrong. God was listening. Jeremiah refused to believe otherwise. In his mind he tried to come up with an excuse for the deity's lack of presence in this battle, anything that would rationalize why his Lord wasn't lending him a divine hand. It must have been some kind of test... yeah, that was it! A test like the many other tests mentioned in the Bible that weren't always fair but indubitably neccessary for spiritual growth. Jeremiah was being tested and he figured it would be bound to happen sooner or later. For whatever reason, the Lord wanted him to do this on his own.
The younger man stiffened when Dominic gripped his shoulder. "Y-You're wrong," he retorted, and for but a split second he sounded almost as if he was trying to convince himself rather than the unholy one standing in front of him. "He's always listening." The next thing that came out of Dominic's mouth was something he would've never expected and he looked up at him with an incredulous stare. Was he serious? Did he honestly think that a person as pure and righteous as Jeremiah would join him? "Me, an angel of the Lord, join forces with you? Never." He spoke like a true hero, the kind that seemed to be a dying breed these days, rarely existing outside of comic books and movies. "I'd rather die than be corrupted by the likes of you."

“No, I'm not wrong. I can hear it in your voice Jeremiah, you have doubts.†Dominic said peering down into the eyes of the would-be angel as if he were trying once more to entrance him with the powers he didn't really have but he believed he did. “Then why is he so silent to your prayers?†he inquired of Jeremiah, tilting his head curiously. He cracked a cocky smirk as if he believed he had won some contest between them. Many so-called villains would by this point be either exploding with frustrated rage or laughing with manic laughter while they would brutally kill him.
However, Dominic didn't get angry at Jeremiah's heroic defiance. It was one of the things he found he liked about the angel. He was strong, confidant and defiant. These were things he found attractive in others, though not to say he didn't like vulnerability and submission. Truly it depended on the situation that the wannabe vampire found himself in which he found was attractive. Currently, being in a heated struggle with Jeremiah, he found his defiance extremely appealing. “How noble of you angel, I must admit I admire your strong will. Willing to face death so honorable. You truly are a gentleman, Jeremiah.â€
He drew the delusional man closer to him, his lips curled upwards into a faint smirk. “Truly, am I that terrible you would chose death over me? I can be quite pleasant under the right conditions and like your father I can be quite the listener too,†he softened his grip on Jeremiah, wrapping his arm around him like they were old friends having a chat.

with your halo slipping down to choke you now
He stared into Dominic's quasi-hypnotic depths, his own eyes gleaming with an unshakable defiance. "Its a test," Jeremiah responded, unwilling to think for even a second that his Lord up in the heavens wasn't listening. "He wants me to defeat you on my own." He believed God loved him unconditionally in a way that could only be described as inhuman. He was something of great value to his heavenly father, precious to his heavenly father. Nobody could tell him otherwise. He refused to believe it. Every so often his thoughts would wander and he'd find himself thinking about his actual dad, the mortal man that he could never seem to impress no matter how hard he tried. Throughout his entire life Jeremiah had bent over backwards in hopes of pleasing him but his efforts never seemed to suffice and now as he was rotting here in Lucid Manor the man could care less. Why? Because Jeremiah was insane. There was no way he could possibly take over his dad's position as the future reverend of their church so he was useless to him. Just a good-for-nothing embarassment of a son with a defective brain. God didn't think that though. No, God thought he was special. God loved all of his children, even the psychotic ones.
The "angel" hadn't expected the "vampire" to compliment him. It threw him off a little, made him wonder what the unholy creature had up his sleeve. He cocked his head to the side as he watched the other, suspicious of his motives. "Your flattery won't work on me Nosferatu." What also puzzled him was the fact that this enemy didn't try to kill him outright the moment he declined the offer. Dominic obviously knew he had the upper hand at this point so why wasn't he seizing the opportunity that clearly presented itself? Jeremiah's stomach dropped when he felt Dominic's arm loop around him but he didn't make a move to protest. Though stiff as a board with the hairs on the back of his neck standing straight up he remained still. "I am not a Judas," he replied, his tone maintaining its firmness. "I will not betray Christ and everything I stand for."

“Oh how naive you are my angel, so desperately clinging to hope that you haven't been abandoned. You poor creature, you truly believe it don't you?†Dominic remarked in false pity for Jeremiah. Honestly he found the angel's desperation to convince himself that God, his father, would never abandon him, though it seemed to the wannabe vampire that Jeremiah was on his own against him and his fate. “I bet you believe that he put you in here to save the weak and defenseless from evil. An evil you see in me. How do you know that I am not your brother in his name? Was I not made with the same flesh and blood? You call me evil, but is there not a saying in the holy book 'let he who is without sin to cast the first stone?'†Dominic tried his best to put doubt in the 'angel's' mind, though at the same time was trying to convince him he was not his enemy, but another being who existed in the same universe as the wound-be angel.
“That's what I like about you Jeremiah, so defiant and firmly set to your convictions,†he said as he turned the wound-be angel to face him, his arm curled around his shoulder so his hand rested on the back of his neck. “It really is a shame you and I can not be friendly towards each other, we could be so good together.†He made a tsk sound like he were scolding him, before he gave his cheek a condescending pat while his lips curved into a devilish grin. This was just too amusing for him.

with your halo slipping down to choke you now
The vampire's words seemed to hit him at the very core and he was forced to break eye contact with him, not wanting Dominic to see him falter. "Shut up," Jeremiah muttered, glaring off into the distance at nothing in particular. His hands shaped themselves into tight shaky fists. Of course he believed it and no matter what this deceptive monster said he wouldn't let himself stop believing it. He lowered his glowering gaze, teeth clenching together. Just who did this abomination think he was anyway, trying to worm his way into his head and replace his faith with doubt? He could deal with physical and spiritual warfare but mental? No. Mental was not his strong point. Mental was the only department vulnerable for attack. He shook his head continuously, silently insisting that Dominic was wrong. That he wasn't naive, that he wasn't desperately holding on to a false hope. His head snapped back in Dominic's direction. "I am he who is without sin and you.. you are not my brother!"
All of a sudden Jeremiah found himself being turned by Dominic, the blood-sucker's arms snaking around his shoulders in a way that made his skin prickle. They were close. So bloody close. His breath caught in his throat for a second and he stared at the other male before jerking back to create some distance. His brows furrowed. "Good together?! How could we possible be good together? What do you mean?" He watched that grin creep over Dominic's pale face and he didn't like it one bit, nor did he like that patronizing pat. The 'angel' watched the other delusional man through narrow eyes. He remained on edge just in case Dominic was trying to lull him into a false sense of security so he could attack him of guard.
