The afternoon was a dreary, chilled afternoon, with fog looming in the air; the perfect weather to suit such a perfect autumn season. Most patients were nestled inside the asylum reading, watching T.V., listening to approved music and even playing some board games here and there. It actually appeared a quiet, normal day inside the asylum. Normal. Ian could only help but scoff at the word. Nothing in this place was normal; not even the nurses or doctors. While everyone else was curled up toasty warm in the Rec Room, Ian sat in the waiting room of the Therapy Rooms. He had been assigned a new Doctor. As if that idea shocked him. He had been so used to being shuffled from Doctor to Doctor to Doctor because he was such a “unique” case. Bullshit. “Unique” was a word used, when in actuality what they really meant is “they couldn't solve him”. And knowing that made Ian snigger quietly to himself.
He was slouched in the lobby's chair waiting for his appointment to begin. He was scheduled to meet his new Doctor at 1:00pm. It was now 1:02pm, said the clock above the nurse's desk. A heavy, exasperated sigh escaped Ian's throat and he slid further into the chair, eyes dancing around the waiting room. He was the only one in the room, with the exception of the nurse at the reception desk and the guard at the door. Damn. No loony to mess with and no hotty to check out. What the hell was he supposed to do with himself as he waited for his session to begin?
There was a rubix cube on the table next to Ian's chair, so he picked it up and started fiddling with it. 1:05pm. Down. Rotate. Up. And rotate once more. Down. Rotate. Up. And rotate once more. Ian's fingers moved effortlessly as he had remembered ages ago how to officially solve the cube.
His eyes met the nurse for a brief moment before putting the cube down. It was still in a jumbled disarray of colors, but he had achieved two sides full of the same color. No wonder people went crazy in this place... Rubix Cubes would do that to people...

”Ian Rodgers.” The nurse called. ”Dr. Drew will see you now.”
